WELCOME TO THE OVERINGTON HOUSE WEB SITE!

Overington House is a transitional living facility for homeless women with children. At Overington House, homeless single parent women keep their children with them as they learn the necessary skills to financially sustain their family and successfully parent their children. Homeless women and homeless children are the heart of the Overington House Mission. Helping women with children, who are dealing with past substance abuse, being homeless, achieve a new start in life.

Overington House receives referrals from city agencies, churches and faith based organizations in the Frankford and NE Philadelphia area.

At Overington House women who have children, faced with being homeless, remain together in our transitional living facility as a viable family, while being given the opportunity to learn skills needed to financially and emotionally stabilize the family unit. Our well trained staff provide 24 hour monitoring of the house environment and residents.

Overington House allows each resident up to two years of "in house" support and skills training and will continue to mentor our graduates in all areas of training after they leave Overington House.

Overington House, together with churches, the Frankford Ministerium, faith based organizations, community organizations is addressing homelessness specifically homeless women who have children with them in the Philadelphia area.

Overington House also has contact with local AA and NA meetings to help our residents address substance abuse.

Overington House is located at 1528-30 Overington Street in the Frankford section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19124.

Transitional living facilities are an effective means of combating homelessness. The homeless family, homeless women, homeless women with children, are given a place to live for as long as two years with the help they need to identify and address the problems that have lead to homelessness. Substance abuse, drugs, alcohol,  physical abuse, lack of income producing skills, lack of family cohesiveness all play a part in making homeless women. Trained staff including master degree case workers evaluate each case and create a individualized plan complete with milestones that address education, job skills, life skills, parenting skills and provides a visual paper trail of accomplishments and success on the journey. Local churches, faith based organizations, community organizations provide job banks, parenting groups, basic check book training, childcare all helping to make homelessness and homeless women in Philadelphia an endangered species.
